Ballast Water

Ballast water has to be treated before it's taken in and before it's discharged, to kill off organisms that could otherwise spread between different waters. We supply the chemicals used at each stage of that process - from treating the water on the way in, to neutralising it before it goes back into the sea - all compliant with IMO requirements.

Pre-treatment: Sodium hypochlorite (12–15%) is used to disinfect the ballast water when it's taken on board.

Neutralisation: Before treated water is discharged, any remaining disinfectant has to be neutralised so it doesn't harm the marine environment. We supply several neutralising agents for this: sodium thiosulphate (powder or solution, 30% and 50%), sodium bisulphite solution (40%), and sodium metabisulphite powder. Which one you use depends on your system and dosing setup, our team can advise on this.

Tank cleaning: Our CareFloc dispersant is used to break down and remove mud and silt buildup in ballast tanks and pipelines.

We hold stock across a global network of ports and can set up new stock points on request, so the chemicals are there when and where you need them, whether that's a major hub or a smaller port.
