Tank Cleaning
Before cleaning with Careclean Degreaser GP, it is recommended to prewash with hot water. For drying or semi-drying oils a prewash with cold water should be carried out immediately after discharge of cargo to retard oxidation and hardening of oil residues. After 1 cycle, slowly start to increase the water temperature to increase effectiveness of the prewash.
Recirculation Method
Recirculation is highly effective and widely used. In this method a chemical solution is pumped via a closed loop through a mechanical tank washing machine. The chemical solution is normally prepared in the tank to be cleaned or in the slop tank. Heat is achieved by the use of a heat exchanger, steam coils or live steam injection. The advantages of this method are recovery and re-use of the heat and chemicals to clean additional tanks. Depending on the degree of contamination Careclean Degreaser GP is circulated as a 2 - 5 % solution for a period of 2 - 4 hours at 50 - 80 ˚C. After circulation rinse thoroughly with (fresh) water. One solution is commonly used to wash 2 - 3 tanks.
Direct Injection Method
Inject 2 - 5 % of Careclean Degreaser GP directly into the tank washing system. The recommended cleaning temperature is 20 - 60 °C. When completed rinse thoroughly with water.
Spray Method (tank cleaning)
Spray the tank surfaces with a 2 - 5 % solution of Careclean Degreaser GP and let the product act for 1 - 15 min. before spraying with a high pressure water jet. The efficiency of this product can be increased by using water of 50 - 80 °C. For very heavy contaminations a 25 % solution should be used. Leave the product to act for 10 to 60 minutes before spraying with a high pressure water jet.
Cooling systems
Along with the usual lime deposits, traces of mineral oils are often found in cooling systems. These oil and fat deposits hinder optimum removal of the hardness deposits by means of acid cleaners (e.g. Careclean F Descalex P). Therefore it is recommended to use an emulsifying cleaner before the acid cleaning, Careclean Degreaser GP is ideal in these cases.
Cleaning of cooling systems / circulation method
Fill the cooling system with a solution of Careclean Degreaser GP and water. Depending on the degree of contamination, use a 5 - 10 % solution of Careclean Degreaser GP in fresh water. Allow this emulsion to circulate for 12 ‑ 24 hours at a maximum temperature of 60 °C. After this operation, drain the cleaning liquid and rinse the system intensively with water until the outlet water remains clear. Add cooling water treatment Caretreat 2 Diesel into the system, diluted with demineralized or evaporator water.
Spray method (general)
Spray the contaminated objects until they are thoroughly dampened with undiluted Careclean Degreaser GP. Let the product act for 20 ‑ 60 minutes, then rinse the objects thoroughly with water.
- Note: objects subject to corrosion should not be rinsed with water; in this case Careclean ECS Quick Dry can be used.
