Caretreat Soot

Caretreat Soot is a powder product to reduce deposits and corrosion in the boiler and stack. The product can be applied to all type of oil fired boilers.

The components in the product will vaporize by the combustion heat. The vapor will create a reaction with sulfur to sulfurdioxide. Sulferdioxide leaves the boiler with the exhaust gasses, not being able to form sulfertrioxide what can condensate at the low temperature parts to form the highly corrosive sulfuric acid. The modified sulfur oxides combined with vanadium complexing compounds prevent the formation of harmful low melting point sodiumvanadylvanadates. Caretreat Soot acts as well as a catalyst, by lowering the ignition temperature of the soot particles.

Caretreat Soot is a specially developed powder what is easily dosed into the system, using the Marine Care Air assisted powder injector. The powder vaporizes on contact with the hot exhaust gas. The combustion temperature should be far above the products sublimation point of 350 ˚C.

The active material reacts with the soot particles to create light, dry and non-adherent soot particles that easily pass through heat exchangers and stack. The remaining deposit is friable and can easily be removed by conventional soot blowing.

Initial dosage for fouled boilers should start at 130 grams per m³ fuel burnt in 24 hours. The calculated dose should be divided into 3 equal parts and dosed at 8 hour intervals. As conditions improve, the dosage can be progressively reduced to a minimum of 30 grams per m³ fuel burnt in 24 hours.

Once every 24 hours soot should be blown at least 1 hour after the last injection of Caretreat Soot.

If a boiler has never been treated and is highly contaminated, double the initial figures. This dosing regime can be applied for the first 2 weeks.

An air operated powder injector can be supplied by Marine Care. Its discharge tube should be mounted through a combustion chamber sighting orifice or a special dosing access point. If possible, the injection should be changed frequently to assist distribution throughout the boiler.
