Careclean PL-Con

Careclean PL-Con is based on nitric acid. Careclean PL-Con provides austenitic stainless steel with a protective chromium oxide layer after pickling or restores the chromium oxide layer of stainless steel.

The passive layer of austenitic stainless steel can be damaged over time due to carrying high concentration strong acid (such as: phosphoric, sulfuric) cargoes. In most cases, the passive layer did not get enough time to restore itself before loading the next cargo.

Careclean PL-Con 40 is mainly used for passivation of austenitic stainless steel tanks and pipelines. It may be used by means of circulation, spraying or in immersion baths.

Recirculation Method
A 45% solution is prepared by mixing 450 liters of Careclean PL-Con 40 with 550 liters of fresh water and circulate this. The treatment time is approx. 2 hours. After circulation drain the system and rinse thoroughly with a good quality (Chlorides < 1 mg/l or ppm) demineralized water. After drying, test the passivity of the stainless steel using the Passivation Test Kit or the Oxilyser (digital passivity metering device).

Spraying
Careclean PL-Con 40 is sprayed in a 45% dilution on the surface and is left to react for 15 - 30 minutes, making sure the solution does not dry during this period of time. After this, rinse thoroughly with a good quality (Chlorides < 1 mg/l or ppm) demineralized water. After drying, test the passivity of the stainless steel using the Passivation Test Kit or the Oxilyser (digital passivity measuring device).

Immersion Bath
Fill a plastic or plastic lined bath with a 45% solution of Careclean PL-Con 40. Submerge the parts into the bath and leave them to react for 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the degree of austenitic steel. Remove the parts from the bath and spray them with a powerful water jet. Good quality (Chlorides < 1 mg/l or ppm) demineralized water should be used for this purpose.

Marine Care supplies a complete range of demineralizer bottles. The bottles contain a mix of cationic and anionic (mixed-bed) resin, to remove dissolved metals, hardness, sulfates, chlorides, etc. from the water. These demineralizer bottles are available in 40, 75, 103 liters.

Marine Care provides a Passivation Test Kit based on palladium chloride or a digital passivity meter (Oxilyser) to measure the condition of the stainless steel. This equipment determines the level of passivity of the treated stainless steel.

After drying, test the passivity of the stainless steel using the Passivation Test Kit or the Oxilyser (digital passivity metering device).
