Building Partnerships Across the Cruise Industry
If you've ever wondered what it takes to supply some of the world's largest cruise operators, Yiannis has a simple answer:
Relationships.
As Regional Vice President of Marine Care Americas and the Cruise Services in Florida, Yiannis has spent more than a decade helping build Marine Care's presence in the Americas. Today, his team supports major cruise operators across the region, but the journey started with a much smaller operation and a lot of persistence.
"When I joined, most customers still knew us as a ship chandler that sold some chemicals on the side. We had to prove ourselves product by product, customer by customer."
That process took years, but it laid the foundation for what Marine Care Cruise Services has become today.
From Local Supplier to Trusted Partner
When Yiannis joined the business in 2011, Marine Care's operation in Florida looked very different than it does today. At the time, the company was still transitioning from a traditional ship supply business into the specialist chemical and technical services partner it is known as today.
A major breakthrough came when Marine Care was given the opportunity to support Royal Caribbean with water treatment chemicals. As confidence grew, so did the relationship.
More products were added. More vessels were supported. More opportunities opened up.
Over time, similar success followed with other cruise operators, helping establish Marine Care as a trusted partner within the industry.
Looking back, Yiannis is most proud of one thing.
"We've built a reputation as a highly reliable business partner. Our customers know they can pick up the phone any day of the week, any day of the year, and someone from Marine Care will do everything possible to help them."
Understanding the Customer's World
One thing becomes clear when speaking with Yiannis: success in the cruise industry is about much more than products. It starts with understanding how customers operate.
Cruise ships run on strict schedules. Every delivery matters. A delayed shipment can affect operations, guest experiences and, in some cases, thousands of passengers onboard.
Yiannis recalls one example that many people outside the industry would never think about. If a vessel runs out of water treatment chemicals and cannot maintain its pools and jacuzzies, those facilities may need to be closed.
That might sound like a small issue, but for a cruise operator it can quickly become a major customer experience problem.
"You're not just delivering chemicals. You're helping keep part of the guest experience running. If something critical doesn't arrive on time, the impact can reach far beyond the engine room."
Understanding these realities helps Marine Care anticipate challenges before they become problems.
The Human Side of Business
Despite operating in a highly technical industry, Yiannis believes the most important part of business is still people.
Technology continues to evolve. Processes become more automated. Communication becomes increasingly digital, but relationships remain at the center of everything.
"The stronger the relationship, the stronger the trust. Once you move beyond emails and start having real conversations, that's when things begin to grow."
For Yiannis, building relationships means understanding how customers work, what they care about and what success looks like for them.
It also means being available when they need support. This philosophy has helped Marine Care establish long-term partnerships with some of the world's most recognized cruise brands.
Looking Ahead
The cruise industry continues to grow, with new vessels, new technologies and increasing focus on sustainability.
For Marine Care, that creates exciting opportunities.
Whether it is helping customers improve water treatment, supporting environmental initiatives or developing new solutions for specific operational challenges, Yiannis sees plenty of room for growth in the years ahead.
His ambition is simple.
"All we need is the opportunity to prove ourselves. Once customers see what we're capable of, the relationship can grow from there."
After more than a decade of helping build Marine Care's presence in the Americas, Yiannis still approaches every opportunity with the same mindset: understand the customer, solve the problem and build trust along the way.
